Visit the Pioneer Museum this weekend and learn more about the needle arts of days gone by including knitting, crochet, quilting and embroidery. Enjoy demonstrations and even participate -- all skill levels are welcome!

Roots Conceret Series: The Blues

It will be a night of the Blues at the Roots Music Series at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg this Saturday, August 18.

The Music:
6:30-7:25
Lincoln Durham is an up and coming gritty and gripping blues singer/songwriter who has caught the attention of blues aficionados.

7:40-8:50
Soul Track Mind is classy Southern group that plays a blend of soul, blues, funk, jazz and rock.

9:10-10:30
Samantha Fish is a young Kansas City native singer/guitar player who plays blues influenced by boogie and rock.

The Meal:
The Longhorn Street Cafe will be on the grounds grilling up ribeye or thick cut pork chop with veggie medley, wild rice, dinner roll, and apple cobbler, all for $10.

The Minutia:
Gates open at 5 p.m.
Wine, beer, sodas, and water are available for purchase.
Parking is free, and guests are encouraged to bring a folding chair.
All museum buildings will remain open until 7 p.m. for Roots guests.

Admission is $12. Students high school age and younger are free. A $2 discount is available for advance online ticket sales or web page printout at www.pioneermuseum.net.

The Pioneer Museum is located at 325 West Main Street in Fredericksburg, with event entrance on Milam Street.

The Mission:
Net proceeds support the mission of the Gillespie County Historical Society.

David Gaschen in Concert at Fredericksburg Theater Company - 8/18-19

The noted singer/actor famous for being the youngest chosen to play the role of Phantom in the most successful play in Broadway history makes a return visit to the Steve W. Shepherd Theater, 1668 Highway 87 South!

Lubbock native, world renowned vocalist and performer, David Gaschen brings his artistry to the Broadway hits and Pop classics that have thrilled generation after generation.

Battle of Midway 70th Anniversary Commemoration - 8/17


Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway at the National Museum of the Pacific War,  with Dr. Craig Symonds, Professor History Emeritus, United States Naval Academy, and author of a brilliant new recounting of America’s greatest naval victory led by the tactics of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. General Michael Hagee, USMC,  will join Dr. Symonds in discussing the leadership decisions employed by Nimitz and his team of code breakers and battle commanders and crews.

Join us August 17th 2pm to 4pm in the Nimitz Ballroom – includes a reception and refreshments during which Dr. Symonds will be signing his book, The Battle of Midway. (Books will be available for purchase.)

Family Fun Day at the National Museum of the Pacific War - 8/4

Families are invited to beat the heat with a morning of WWII-themed games and activities aimed at students ages 7 to 10 at the National Museum of the Pacific War.

Free event, but standard admission applies if touring the museum.
