Roots Concert Series Cajun Music - 9/26

Music fans can enjoy Cajun music, Cajun cooking, and nonstop Cajun kicking at the next Roots Music concert at Fredericksburg’s Pioneer Museum on Saturday, Sept 26, 2009.

Three top Cajun and Zydeco acts make a rare stop in the Hill Country Music scene for this final 2009 concert.

The Gulf Coast Playboys Trio start off the evening at 6 p.m. The Gulf Coast Playboys first amazed Hill Country fans at the 2004 Roots series, and return with a full set of down-home, traditional Cajun two-steps and waltzes, country two-steps and shuffles, plus Tex-Mex polkas, cumbias and more.

Charles Thibodeaux & the Austin Cajun Aces follow at 7 p.m. Charles Thibodeaux grew up in Beaumont, Texas, hanging around his cousin’s legendary Rodair Club in Port Acres. Influenced by Cajun musicians Andrew Cormier, Rodney LeJeune, and others, Thibodeaux started learning Cajun accordion at 16. He formed Austin Cajun Aces in 2004, and has built a following throughout Texas.

Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band close out the evening from 8 to 10 p.m. Billed as “The World’s Premier Zydeco Showman,” Chubby Carrier is a third-generation zydeco artist who started his career at age 12 playing drums with his famous father, Roy Carrier. Before long he had formed his own band and toured the world. Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band have recorded five CDs and headlined festivals across the U.S. and Europe.

Hungry fans can dig into a $10 Cajun meal cooked up by the Longhorn Street Cafe. From 5pm-10pm they will serve Shrimp Gumbo to start; choice of Shrimp Ettoufee, Crawfish Ettoufee, Boudin or Red Beans & Rice; served with Herb Roasted Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables, and Dinner Roll, and Baileys Apple Crisp Cobbler for dessert.
