German Holiday Traditions in the 1900's at Sauer-Beckmann Farm - 11/28

Celebrate the holidays in the Texas Hill Country at the LBJ State Park, east of Fredericksburg on Highway 290 in Stonewall on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. Observe and learn some of the 1900's German traditions. Enjoy decorating cookies as it was done for a German Christmas in that era. Listen to the Legend of St. Nicholas. Donations are welcomed. Swedish Christmas at Pedernales Cellars - 11/28

"Ranchwomen of the Texas Hill Country" at Photography 414

"Don't Make Me Go to Town: Ranchwomen of the Texas Hill Country" will be shown at Photography 414 Saturdays and Sundays in November, noon to 6 p.m. The project includes platinum prints and oral histories of ranchwomen from this region. The photographer, Rhonda Lashley Lopez, began the work more than a decade ago as a graduate student in photojournalism at UT Austin, and the work will be published by UT Press. The signed and numbered prints are for sale, but everyone is welcome to view the exhibit and learn about these remarkable women. Photography 414 Gallery is at 414 East Main Street.

"Storytelling in Texas" - 11/28


A Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Event for the Family and Audiences of All Ages. “Storytelling in Texas” will host storytelling concerts at 2:00pm and 7:30pm at Steve W. Shepherd Theater, 1668 Highway 87 South. Three nationally recognized storytellers will evoke laughter, stimulate the imagination and recall fond memories. General admission seating - tickets are $8 for children under 13 at both concerts, and $15 for adults for the matinee and $20 for the adults for the evening concert.

Scooter, gun, and gift card part of 2009 Preservation Weekend prizes


The public can now buy tickets to win one of three unique $2500 prizes offered by the Gillespie County Historical Society: a new motor scooter from Scootique, VISA gift card, or a custom painted gun.


Tickets are being sold in conjunction with Preservation Weekend, the Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The events include the Tannenbaum Ball on Friday evening, Dec 11, the Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, Dec 12 from noon to 6 p.m., and the Candlelight Tour on Saturday evening, Dec 12, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.


The winner’s name will be drawn the night of the Tannenbaum Ball, Friday, Dec. 11. The winner will choose one of three prizes, each a $2500 value:



  • Buddy Scooter from Scootique

  • Baretta 391 shotgun from Smith Guns

  • VISA gift card - $2500


Prize tickets are $30 each or four for $100. Tickets are on sale now at the Society office, 312 West San Antonio St; at the Pioneer Museum store on the corner of Main and Milam; and from any member of the board of directors. Tickets are also being sold in front of the old Crenwelge store and Chase Bank on weekends.


Preservation Weekend is the largest fundraiser for the Gillespie County Historical Society, whose mission is to preserve and tell the story of Fredericksburg’s unique cultural heritage.

Wild Game Dinner - 11/21

Enjoy a fun evening with something for the entire familythat raises money for activities that enhance educational opportunities for our Hill Country residents, parents, teachers and our kids for such things as scholarships, "Ag in the Classroom", youth leadership conferences and more. The Wild Game Dinner returns to the Gillespie County Fairgrounds Saturday 11/21, from 5:30-9:30 pm. Dinner tickets are $20 each and include beer, wine and soft drinks. There are raffle items and door prizes as well. The fairgrounds are on State hwy 16 South.
