Roots Music Series “Country Music Night” - 5/31

Bring your whole family to the Roots Music Series at the Pioneer Museum, 325 W. Main! Listen to emerging and established artists at these live, outdoor concerts. Dance on the dance floor beside the stage and under the trees. Get comfortable in your favorite lawn chair under the stars. Dine on some of the best cooking in the county with a cold beer, wine, water or soft drinks for sale. Every month brings a different genre and menu. This month is “Country Music Night” featuring Mark Powell and Lariat at 6:30 pm and Bruce and Kelly Robison at 8:10 pm. All proceeds support the Mission of the Gillespie County Historical Society (GCHS).

Gates open at 5 pm; music starts at 6:30 pm. $15 per person at the gate or $13 online. Kids under 18 are free.

Crawfish Festival - 5/23-25

“Laissez les bon temps rouler!”

The annual Jaycees’ Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival returns to Marktplatz over Memorial Day Weekend.  The Festival will feature activities for the whole family including lots of great Cajun food, live music, crawfish races and a Creole brunch with a special appearance by Chef John Russ of the renowned restaurant, Luke San Antonio.  Please visit the website for the complete lineup of activities and entertainment.

Festival times are Friday 6 pm to midnight; Saturday 11 am to 11 pm; Sunday 11 am to 6 pm.  Admission is $7 for adults on Friday and Sunday and $10 on Saturday.  Kid tickets (ages 6-12) will be $5 per day.  Kids 5 and under are free.  Two-day passes are $12 and three-day passes are $20.  The Creole Brunch will be held on Sunday from 10 am to noon.  Ticket prices for the brunch are $55 per seat or $450 for a table of eight.

Memorial Day Program - 5/26

This program, held at the Plaza of Presidents at the National Museum of the Pacific War at 10 am on Monday, pays tribute to all who have given their lives in support of our country. Program will also include a joint Color Guard, placement of nearly 50 wreaths, music and will conclude with a 21 gun salute and echo taps. There is no charge for this program. Fredericksburg Community Orchestra Spring 2014 Concert II - May 17

The public is invited to attend the Spring Concert of the Fredericksburg Community Orchestra on Saturday, May 17, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, 107 E. Lower Crabapple Rd, Fredericksburg.

The program is free and will include individual and group performances by musicians and students under the direction of Theresa Britt.

The Advanced Youth Ensemble will open the program followed by the FCO String Orchestra. FCO Suzuki Violin, Cello, and Viola students will then present their recital pieces.

The public is invited to stay and enjoy refreshments after the concert.

The Fredericksburg Community Orchestra is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of string education in the Hill Country. The orchestra consists of community members of all ages. The mission of Fredericksburg Community Orchestras is to promote string education in Fredericksburg and surrounding communities.

Better Lights for Starry Nights at Enchanted Rock - 5/17

Join us for a great Hill Country Alliance Dark Sky Program.  A dark night sky full of big, bright stars is important here in the Texas Hill Country just like clean rivers, scenic vistas and natural landscapes.  Little by little, light by light, the magical mystery of the big Texas night sky is diminishing.  But it’s not too late to reverse this trend and you can help!  Join Bill Wren of the McDonald Observatory as he shares his expertise on the value and simple strategies to protect starry skies.  Enjoy star gazing with Hill Country Astronomers after the program!  It’s fun, free, open to the public and kids are welcome!  Meet at the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area Group Pavilion 1/2 mile north of the park gate at 7:30 pm.

Roses and Rosé Mother’s Day Celebration at Pedernales Cellars - 5/11

Join Pedernales Cellars in celebrating moms, 2916 Upper Albert Rd.!  In acknowledgement of all they do, the first 100 moms will receive a rose.  During the day, Pedernales will feature its Dry Rosé and in the afternoon from 2 to 5 pm, there will be live music on the deck.  Treat your mom to a special day in the Texas Wine Country.  The winery will be open from noon to 5 pm.

Founder's Day - 5/10


Wreath laying at the Vereins Kirche at 9:30 am followed by another wreath laying and tour at Der Stadt Friedhof on N. Lee Street. Living History activities will take place on the grounds of the Pioneer Museum such as rope making and doll making. Visitors will be treated to free beer tasting from Fredericksburg Brewing Company and Pedernales Brewery from 2 to 5 pm. A social hour will begin at 5 pm followed by a dinner at 6 pm. The dinner will be held in the historic sanctuary of the First Methodist Church and tickets are $15. Descendants of early Fredericksburg families who were engaged in the brewing heritage of Gillespie County will be honored. 9:30 am to 5 pm. Regular museum admission is $5 adults; $3 students; children 5 and under are free.

The Gillespie County Historical Society, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve historic sites and objects in Gillespie County, while promoting interest in Texas history. More information is available by calling (830) 997-2835.
