Fredericksburg Rotary's 1st Annual Volunteer Fair - 11/12

The Fredericksburg Rotary Club is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Volunteer Fair. “This is an opportunity for the many organizations that support our community to receive the support of the Fredericksburg Rotary Club. The idea is to pool our resources and work together to recruit potential Volunteers. Many people want to give back, but may not know the many ways they can contribute. The Volunteer Fair will showcase the local organizations that need the support of volunteers, and the various events they host throughout the year. As the holidays approach, this is the season to get involved” said Alicia Lackey, Public Relations Director for the Fredericksburg Rotary Club.

Representatives from the Hill Country Needs Council, the Boys & Girls Club, the American Red Cross, Alamo Area Council of Governments and others will be at Markt Platz on NOVEMBER 12, 2011 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to welcome potential volunteers with food, games and entertainment. The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be on-site with a mobile unit for those that would like to give blood. Further, the Fredericksburg Rotary Club will kick-off the collection of unwrapped toys for the annual Toys for Tots campaign.

Rotary invites everyone who wants to learn more about this opportunity to visit www.fredericksburgrotary.org for more information. Public contributions can also be sent to The Fredericksburg Rotary Club, PO Box 1006, Fredericksburg, TX 78624.

Military Blood Drive - 11/8-9

Support Our Troops with THE ULTIMATE CARE PACKAGE in our Military Blood Drive

Y O U R H E L P I S N E E D E D !

WHAT: Another blood drive specifically for the U.S. military is being sponsored by The Knights of Columbus Council 9765 of the Saint Mary's parish. As before, the KC’s are making this a Fredericksburg (Or Hill Country) area and community project, and they need everyone’s help.

WHEN: November 8 & 9, Tues & Wed, from 9:00 am to 7 pm both days.

WHERE: National Guard Armory, 598 Armory Drive, Fredericksburg, Texas Directions: From Fredericksburg, go west on Main Street, take Hwy 290 toward Harper, continue west. Look for and follow the signs about one-mile past the “Y”. Turn right onto Armory Drive.

WHY: When its blood supplies run low, the military must buy blood from civilian blood banks at retail prices. Also the military cannot request donations or civilian assistance (the military has to be invited into the community).

FOR WHOM: Donated blood will be utilized solely for the benefit of our military, first in war zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan, then to support medical facilities that care for our wounded, such as Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LARMC), Germany. One donation can help save up to three lives.

Please Support Our Troops with more than just a bumper sticker. How many times have you asked, "What can we do?" or "What can we send over to the troops?" Besides our prayers and gratitude, perhaps the best gift one can offer our troops is THE ULTIMATE CARE PACKAGE: the gift of life, life-saving blood. You can literally be there with the troops in their time of need.
Our community has supported our military in the previous drives with 2,424 units, averaging almost 300 units per drive. The Armed Services Blood Program suggests that 50 units is a successful drive, but our community has demonstrated that it can do much more. Thank you, Fredericksburg!
Again, this will be a total community effort. With your participation we can join hands and help achieve another meaningful goal for our troops. FYI: people on many medications can donate; so don’t let that be a deterrent. If you have concerns about your medications, bring a list of the meds—and their purpose—with you, so the staff can quickly tell whether or not you can share. Or in advance, regarding medications or travel issues, call Fort Sam Houston Akeroyd Blood Donor Center at 210-295-4655.
Can we count on you to "roll up your sleeve"? We encourage you to invite and bring your staff, family, customers, friends, and significant others. Walk-ins are welcomed, but for your convenience, you can go online to schedule an appointment for your donation at www.militarydonor.com. Search by zip code (78624), and choose your time. Homemade cookies and a unique military blood donor t-shirt will be provided for all donors.
If you have questions or need more information, please call Bob Sagebiel at 830-990-6986. He will gladly address a group, and/or he can send you a flyer by email for printing, or bring by one for placement in your business: bsagebiel@austin.rr.com.
Photo ID and SSN required to donate, and a signed parental consent if age 17.

Thank you for Supporting Our Troops with The Ultimate Care Package!
