BBQ on th Pedernales

LBJ at the buffetPresident Lyndon Johnson's first state dinner took place in December 1963.  It was a BBQ for West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard and was held on his ranch in Stonewall.

This weekend, The National Park Service and Friends of LBJ National Historical Park invite you to join them in the re-creation of a historic barbecue hosted by President and Mrs. Johnson, Saturday, October 23rd, from 4 - 9 pm.

The live oak shaded air will fill with the sounds of the Bret Graham Band as you enjoy the aroma of Texas barbeque drifting through the crowd. LBJ Library Director Mark Updegrove will take a humorous look at the Rancher-President who loved nothing better than welcoming guests from around the world to their beloved LBJ Ranch. The event begins at 4:00 PM and continues into the evening. The BBQ dinner will be prepared on-site by Riley's from Blanco.

Wine and Food Festival - 10/23

The Fredericksburg Food and Wine Fest is a celebration of Texas food and wine, entertainment and fun. The specialty area will offer Texas delicacies, such as salsa, jellies, rubs, dips and much more. Enjoy the wine tasting area, with wines from across the state. Watch as guest chefs' show-off their talents and techniques. Have fun with the grape games and an auction, as well as live music. The two special events to be announced. Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for 21 and under and 12 and under free.

Dr. Pepper Open Classic Tennis Tournament - 10/23

This Fredericksburg Tennis Association tourney is for adults levels 3.0 -4.5 playing singles, doubles and mixed doubles. For the last 24 years it has attracted a large following of both locals and out of town players. Golden Hub's Annual Fall Dance Fest - 10/16

The 7th annual Golden Hub Fall Dance Fest, on Marktplatz Saturday October 16 from 7-11 pm, is the kick-off for the Golden Hub’s “Sponsor A Senior” fundraising campaign. Proceeds from the dance will benefit the Golden Hub Senior Center and Meals-on-Wheels program. The first band takes the stage at 5:00pm, then a second band will begin at 7:00. Admission to the dance is a $7 presale with tickets available at the Golden Hub Community Center located at 1009 N. Lincoln or from any Hub member. Tickets will be $8 at the door, with no charge to children twelve years of age and under. A concession stand will offer tasty food and snacks, including BBQ on a bun, Frito Pie, hot dogs, chili dogs, chips, and cookies. Soft drinks will be for sale, as well as water and ice for BYOB set-ups. The Community Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Lone Star Gourd Festival - 10/15-16

Visit the 15th Annual Lone Star Gourd Festival at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, on Highway 16 South. Workshops, demonstrations, judged competition and a Kids Kraft Korner are just part of the activities. Hours are Friday 1:00 - 6:00pm, Saturday 9:00am - 6:00pm and Sunday 10:00am - 4:00pm. Admission is $5 and children 12 and under free.

Natural Fiber - Fashionable, Functional, Fun at the LBJ State Park & Historic Site

Fibers are used in many ways from clothes making to making rope. Come to LBJ State Park & Historic Site in Stonewall on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and see a few of the ways it was used at the 1900's living history farm and what an important product to the timeline of early life in the Texas Hill Country. Donations graciously accepted.

"Fall Fantasies, An Art Show" at Artisans at Rocky Hill - 10/1-16

Artisans at Rocky Hill proudly presents "Fall Fantasies", the art of husband and wife, Rick Hewitt and Linda Rauch of Spicewood. Please join us for an opening reception from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm during First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg. Refreshments will be served. Linda enjoys painting boldly colored wildflowers in acrylic. She is also developing a new style she refers to as pop art with hard edges. Linda's paintings are noted as dream like with a modern impressionistic twist and most of her pieces come from her imagination. Rick creates with copper and fire and his sculptural pieces have adorned the courtyard at Artisans for over a year. Through torch work, acid burns and various techniques for copper toning, Rick brings tactile beauty pleasing to the eyes to Artisans and gallery guests. This fabulous show depicting bold color on canvas and copper sculpture will be on display and available for purchase through Saturday, October 16th.

Volkssportverein Fredericksburg and the National Parks Service "Walk the Ranch" - 10/3

A non-competitive 5/10K walk held traditionally to coincide with Fredericksburg's annual Oktoberfest held at LBJ State Park & Historic Site east of Fredericksburg on Highway 290. Everyone is welcome, including dogs on leashes. As you walk the country roads, see the Texas White House, the cemetery where the Johnsons are buried and other sites on the Ranch. Registration is from 8:00am - noon and you must be finished by 3:00pm. This event is free, unless you are seeking volkssport's credits, then the cost is $3. Call (830) 992-2053 for more information.
