THCOA is collaborating with other opera/music organizations in the region including Opera Piccola of San Antonio, The Austin Lyric Opera, the opera and music departments at Texas State University of San Marcos and the University of Texas and FAVA, (Franco American Vocal Academy of Paris, France and Elgin, Texas, The Hill Country Orchestra, The Mid Texas Symphony and local groups such as The Fredericksburg Theater Company and The Fredericksburg Music Club.
Cosi fan Tutti, a Mozart opera, opened Texas Hill Country Opera & Arts 2012 Season at The Janey Slaughter Briscoe Opera House in Uvalde and The Brauntex Theater in New Braunfels.  Both events were enthusiastically received and well supported in the local business/civic communities.

The largest event for 2012 is The 2nd Annual Fredericksburg Opera/Music Festival. The prelude for the Festival will be on Sunday, July 15th, when selected opera singers from the hill country will be singing for worship services in Fredericksburg area churches.  A brunch will follow at August E’s Restaurant beginning at 12:00 p.m. with the individual opera singers performing collectively.  FYI:  This was a sellout last year.  Tickets are $35.00 per person

Call August E’s to make your reservation  830.997.1585

The Festival weekend kicks off in The Nimitz Museum Ballroom at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday July 19th with “Youth Night at The Opera.” The evening program will include motivation speaker, Olympic Swimming Gold Medalist, Josh Davis, just prior his departure for participation in the Summer Games in London.  His sister, Tynan Davis, Mezzo Soprano opera singer now residing in New York City will join with him.  Their sports/music presentation is certain to inspire every young person there to develop their individual talents.  Middle and High School talented individuals from the area will also be performing along with William Chapman, Operatic Tenor who is preparing for his debut in opera houses in Italy in September of this year.  The evening is free to all youth.  Boys and Girls Clubs of The Hill Country have been invited as well as groups from area churches.  All youth are encouraged to attend.  Refreshment will be served on the patio following the performance.

On Friday, July 20th, an exciting double bill opera program will be presented in The Nimitz Museum Ballroom at 7:30 pm.   The two one-act operas being performed for your pleasure are “Face On The Barroom Floor”, written for The Central City Colorado Opera House, and “The Telephone”.  During the intermission, a wine reception hosted by Serendipity Wine Imports will be held on the Patio.  The inclusive costs for the evening are $50.00 per person.

We are pleased to once again be working with Gene Oliver, owner of Fredericksburg’s state of the art movie theater, The Stagecoach, on the Saturday 9:30 am showing of  PBS 25th Anniversary Special of “Phantom Of  The Opera.”  Those who attended last year will remember how spectacular the showing of Les Miserables was on the theater’s large screen with incredible surround sound and plush seating.  There is no charge for the event; however, a donation will be encouraged.

Saturday 2:00pm at The Nimitz will be an Opera Workshop entitled “What In The World is Happening In The World of Opera? “ lead by Kristin Roach.  These are both exciting times and sad times for opera in the United States.  To date 32 opera companies have folded in the last year; however, several companies such as Texas Hill Country Opera & Arts THCOA have emerged, all making opera more friendly to rank and file Americans.  If you are curious to learn more about ‘opera’, new operas on the scene and the production of an opera, this is your opportunity.  The event is free to the public.  Donations encouraged.

On Saturday evening, July 21st, a production of “The Best of Broadway,” a Dinner Show, will begin with a wine reception on the beautiful Nimitz Museum Patio at 6:00 pm.  This Broadway Review will certainly be a hit as tunes from throughout Broadway history will be presented.  Dawn and Leu Savanh, owners of August E’s Restaurant, will delight us with another one of their lavish dinners and professional singers from the region will take to the stage to create our third and final magical Festival evening in The Admiral Nimitz Ballroom.  Individual tickets are $85.00.

“WHEN THE BEATING OF YOUR HEART echoes the beating of the drum, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes.  Will you join in our crusade….will be strong and stand with me?” from Les Miserables.  If you are interested in standing with us as an underwriter for the Fredericksburg Opera/Music Festival please contact Brenda Newman at 713.826.2454 cell.  There are many levels of participation so all may join our crusade of bringing opera/music back to The Nimitz where it all began so many years ago…….where the German Settlers strolled Main Street and gathered to enjoy their wonderful German Operas and the music of their beloved homeland.

Tickets may be purchased at The Fredericksburg Theater Box Office, 306 E. Austin from 9-12, Tuesday thru Friday, by telephone, 888-991-6749 and 830-997-3588 or online at www.FredericksburgTheaterCompany.com.  Inclusive tickets are available for the week-end at $125.00 per person.
