Grape Stomp at Becker Vineyards - 8/30-31

"Stomp Me! Crush Me! Make Me Wine!" will be the battle cry for the 12th Annual Becker Vineyards Grape Stomp. The event takes place August 23, 24, 30 and 31. Souvenir T-shirts will be for sale (price: tba). Some people like to purchase shirts and put their grape "stomped" foot prints on the back as a souvenir. Children are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by an adult. The event is complimentary.

Roots Music Series “Texas Rock ‘n Roll Night” - 8/30

Bring your whole family to the Roots Music Series at the Pioneer Museum, 325 West Main! Listen to emerging and established artists at these live, outdoor concerts. Dance on the dance floor beside the stage and under the trees. Get comfortable in your favorite lawn chair under the stars. Dine on some of the best cooking in the county with a cold beer, wine, water or soft drinks for sale. Every month brings a different genre and menu. This month is “Texas Rock ‘n Roll Night” featuring Al Staehely at 6:30 pm, George DeVore at 7:45 pm and Freddie Steady 5 at 9:15 pm.  All proceeds support the Mission of the Gillespie County Historical Society (GCHS).

Gates open at 5 pm; music starts at 6:30 pm.  $15 per person at the gate or $13 online.  Kids under 18 are free.

Vereins Quilt Guild 8th Biennial Quilt Show - 8/29-30

“Today’s Treasures, Tomorrow’s Heirlooms”.  Judged show featuring over 100 quilts, old-fashioned bed turning, vendors, boutique, scissor sharpening, Tea Room and more!  Prize quilt drawing to be held Saturday at 3 pm.  This year to be held at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 1800 North Llano.

Friday 10 am to 7 pm; Sat 10 am to 5 pm.  $6 per person admission.

106th Birthday Celebration for President Lyndon B. Johnson - 8/27

The public is invited to participate in commemorating President Lyndon B. Johnson’s birthday at the LBJ State Park in Stonewall.  Visitors are invited to the Visitor Center first for a welcome kit, park permit and information on the day’s activities.  The public can see a film about the President and the Texas Hill Country along with many exhibits.  Throughout the day, visitors can visit the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm and participate in old-time family games and see how President Johnson grew up in the Texas Hill Country.  While at the park, make sure to see the presidential exhibits, pack a picnic basket, enjoy the Pedernales River and visit the park store for park and historical-related souvenirs.

There will also be a wreath laying ceremony at his gravesite in the Johnson Family Cemetery by representatives from Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio at 10 am.

6th Annual Grape Stomp at Pedernales Cellars - 8/30

6th annual celebration of the grape harvest at Pedernales Cellars, 2916 Upper Albert Road, where patrons can purchase t-shirts to stomp on and enjoy live music.

Antique Tractor & Engine Club Heritage Show -

Running in conjunction with the Gillespie County Fair and featuring tractor pulls and games, hay baling, blacksmithing, sawmill demonstration, kids’ events and more. Free with regular admission to the Fair and held at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds.

126th Gillespie County Fair Parade 8/22

Over 300 units strong, the parade is one of the Hill Country's biggest parades. It is the opening event for the annual Gillespie County Fair. The parade starts at 10 am and will travel east to west down Main Street.

Pari-Mutuel Horse Racing - 8/23-24

Live pari-mutuel quarter horse and thoroughbred horse racing. At the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, 530 Fair Drive off Hwy 16 South.

Rambling Rosé - August 9

As the summer winds down and fall is on the horizon, it's the perfect time to relax and enjoy it all with an afternoon at Becker Vineyards for Rambling Rosé. George & Friends Tribute Show at Rockbox Theater - 8/5-6

Pari-mutuel Horse Racing - 8/9-10

This is pari-mutuel horse racing the whole family can enjoy, and the summer season brings four weekends of live horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering at the fair ground's class three track. Racing weekends include dancing, entertainment, a variety of food and drink along with all of the attractions of historic Fredericksburg. Live races feature quarter horse and thoroughbred racing as well as special races, trials and futurities, and additionally, you can also enjoy the Race Barn, a pari-mutuel simulcast building featuring greyhound, thoroughbred, and quarter horse races from all over the country in state of the art simulcast facilities. The Race Barn is pleasantly air-conditioned and includes a restaurant and full bar.

Admission for live racing is $4 for adults (except during the County Fair when they are $5), $1 for children 6 to 12 years of age and free for children under 6. MasterCard and Visa are accepted. Tickets can be bought in advance and reserved by calling (830) 997-2359
