Kite Day at LBJ State Park & Historic Site

Bring the family to the LBJ State Park and Historic Site from 1 pm to 3 pm and spend Saturday March 10 making and flying kites. Learn the basics of kite construction and flying a homemade kite. The park will supply recycled materials and help kids make their own kites; you are also encouraged to bring your own kites to enjoy flying in the park.

126th Gillespie County Fair Parade 8/22

Over 300 units strong, the parade is one of the Hill Country's biggest parades. It is the opening event for the annual Gillespie County Fair. The parade starts at 10 am and will travel east to west down Main Street.

123rd Annual Gillespie County Fair - 8/25-28

Billed as the oldest county fair in Texas, the Gillespie County Fair features agricultural and livestock exhibits that showcase the Hill Country's best!

Wright's Amusements & Midway bring a variety of rides and games for the 4 days of the fair. Pari-mutuel live horse racing and simulcast dog & horse racing, mutton busting, horse shoes & washer pitching, arts & crafts, community exhibits, a talent show & 2 dances featuring local & national performers.

Easter Egg Hunt at Pioneer Museum - 4/23

Take the kids to the Pioneer Museum on Saturday, April 3 for an Easter egg hunt! This BYOB event (that’s: bring your own basket) meets at 10:30 a.m. at the museum barn, with the hunt beginning at 10:30 a.m. No child will leave empty-handed. The Pioneer Museum is located at 325 W. Kinderfest - 12/4

Children are invited to come and bring their stockings to hang over the large hearth in the Kammlah House at the Pioneer Museum. While children are entertained with singing, stories and crafts, St. Nick drops in and fills the stockings prior to making an appearance at the party. 7th Annual Texas Geocaching Challenge - 3/13-15

Geocaching is a worldwide game of hide and seek. A geocacher can place a geocache anywhere in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS unit can then try to locate the geocache. Once a geocacher finds the geocache, they will sign the log to show they were there. This year's challenge is hosted by the central Texas region of the Texas Geocaching Association at Lady Bird Johnson Park on Highway 16 South. During the weekend, geocachers will be encouraged to visit various locations in the Fredericksburg area to find geocaches hidden at area businesses and other interesting locations. This festival is best described as a gathering of men & women who share a passion for making arrowheads, spear points, & art objects made from obsidian chert & other types of stone. Over 500 participants gather for three days & knap flint. There are constant demonstrations going on for beginners & many vendors selling beautiful items made from stone. This is a great family outing!

The Festival will be held on the grounds of Fort Martin Scott, a pre-Civil War era frontier fort located just east of Fredericksburg on Hwy. 290, very near to the Wal-Mart & directly across the highway from the Fredericksburg Law Enforcement Center. 2007 Ben Hur Schrine Circus

The 2007 Ben Hur Shrine Circus will be at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds on Highway 16 South for one day only --- Wednesday, September 5 starting at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for children 12 years and under. Fireworks Jamboree This Saturday at Double B Ranch Resort

Let the Feathers Fly - April 28 LBJ State Park

This event will offer information about an outdoor activity that can involve the entire family: training homing pigeons. Presenters will give a brief talk about raising, training and competing with these birds. They will then release a flock to watch as they circle and begin their trip.
