Texas Hills Vineyards Grape Stomp - 8/28-29

One of Texas’ finest wineries, Texas Hills Vineyard in Johnson City, is preparing for harvest by announcing 3 new wines on their tasting list; Barbera, Cabernet Franc, and TORO de TEJAS (Tempranillo) all while having their yearly GRAPE STOMP!


10th Annual Grape Stomp August 28th & 29th celebrates the Hill Country's Harvest. Join them in celebrating the smells of new wine and the excitement of harvest season. Enjoy a glass of wine paired with Texas cheeses, sausage and crackers on the patio while stomping grapes (Remember Lucy!) to the romantic sounds of Italian music. Don’t miss out on “footprinting” a T-shirt to remember the occasion.


Stomp hours are 10:30am till 5:00pm on Saturdays and 12:30pm till 4:00pm on Sundays.

Antique Tractor & Engine Club Heritage Show - 8/27-29

The Antique Tractor and Engine Club Heritage Show will have working antique agricultural displays, including blacksmithing, antique gas engines, hay baling, saw mill demonstrations, static displays, children's activities and more. The show is at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds and is free with your paid admission to the fair.

2nd Annual 4-H Pork BBQ Lunch - 8/27

Don't go home from the Fair parade on an empty stomach. The 4-H adult leaders along with youth from 13 clubs throughout Gillespie County will be serving a sitdown or take home meal at Marktplatz and a drive-thru take home meal at Turner Hall, 103 West Travis Street, after the Fair Parade of Friday from 11 am to 1 pm. Money raised from the event will go towards scholarships and to the 13 clubs to help pay for camps, community service projects and other club activities. Tickets for the lunch are $8.

Cool Meals Cooking Class - 8/21

Learn to prepare tasty summer salads during the Fredericksburg Culinary Arts’ Cool Meals cooking class. Learn how to make Tortellini Salad, Chicken Cobb Salad, and other easy to prepare dishes – including a yummy fresh berry sorbet. The class will be held from 3:00-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 21 at Das Peach Haus on Hwy 87 S. Cost for the class is $39.

Sunshine Clown Camp for Big Kids -8/18

"Sunshine" the Clown's 6th Annual "Clown Town" for Big Kids at Boys & Girls Club of the Texas Hill Country, 208 E. Park Street. "Sunshine" will lead participants in a fun exploration to find their inner clown. Classes include: (A) Clown movement, (B) Character development, (C) Clown Makeup, (D) Ballooning Fun. Family Fun at Pioneer Museum - 8/21

The Pioneer Museum, 325 W. Main Street, will host its "Timeless Toys" Family fun event this Saturday, August 21 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Learn more about the toys used for play by the Pioneer children. Roots Music Series: Texas Country - 8/21

Texas Country makes a visit to the next Roots Music Concert at Fredericksburg’s Pioneer Museum on Saturday, Aug 21 as Brian Milson, Eleven Hundred Springs, and Doug Moreland take the outdoor stage.



Brian Milson & the Short Road Band start the evening at 6 p.m. with traditional country mixed with a taste of Texas, playing everything from Bob Wills to rock and roll classics.


At 7 pm, Eleven Hundred Springs will fill the dance floor with more real country music, including a bit of Hank Thompson honky tonk, Waylon Jennings country/rock, and Bob Wills Western Swing.



Fiddler and funnyman Doug Moreland finishes the evening playing all the western favorites with his classic western swing band of upright bass fiddle, drums, and steel guitar.


Once again guests will enjoy the Longhorn Street Cafe’s meal that includes choice of 12 oz. rib-eye charbroiled to order on site, or Grilled Chicken Breast. Sides of dinner roll, butter, mashed potatoes, green beans, plus dessert - all for $9. Tea, sodas, beer, wine and water for sale on the grounds.


The Pioneer Museum is located at 325 West Main Street in Fredericksburg. All concerts take place on Saturdays, 6 - 10 p.m. Gates open and food is served beginning at 5 p.m. Guests enter on Milam Street. There is free parking.


Gate admission is $12, but only $10 for those who buy advance online tickets or bring the web page printout to the gate. Students high school age and younger are free.


The 2010 Roots seasons finishes on Sept 25 with Latin/Conjunto Night. Net proceeds support the mission of the Gillespie County Historical Society.

Ring of Fire Ride at Luckenbach - 8/14

Live music, great food and more are available this Saturday, August 14 during the Ring of Fire Ride or Race Luckenbach cycling event with 13-, 40-, 65-, and 110-mile routes and optional 65- and 110-mile timed races. Entry fees vary depending on route, with entries going in support of the Ronald McDonald House. Planned live musical performances include The Cash Band at 10:00 a.m., an Outlaw Afternoon featuring Bridgette London and WC Jameson beginning at 1:00 p.m., and an evening concert at 8:00 p.m. with the Kevin Deal Band. Luckenbach is located off Hwy 290 E on RR 1376.

Fredericksburg Archery Club Shoot - 8/15

The final shoot of the year for members of the Fredericksburg Archery Club is this Sunday, August 15 at the Kramer Ranch #1. The competition is open for men, women and youths. Competition begins with a California start at 8:00 a.m. There will be a BBQ lunch and a raffle.

Hill Country Golf Classic - 8/14

The Texas Tech Hill Country Alumni will host the 7th annual Hill Country Golf Classic Tournament at Lady Bird Johnson Park & Golf Course on Highway 16 South. The co-sponsor is North Park Lexus of San Antonio. The associate co-sponsors are Phoenix Phoenix Petrocorp Inc. and Hye Spirits - Home of Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is an excellent golf tournament and it sells out very early every year, so register early at Lady Bird Golf Course. The Texas Tech Masked Rider and Midnight Matador, and Texas Tech Pom Squad will be on hand for the opening ceremonies at 11:30am. This is an excellent opportunity for the citizens of Gillespie County to come out and have their picture taken with the squad, rider and horse.

Singing Waters Vineyard Pinot Grigiot Harvest - 8/4

Singing Water Vineyards in Comfort needs volunteers to help them harvest their Pinot Grigo crop. If you are interested in participating in their harvest as a picker please email the vineyard and let them know when you would be available to pick and a contact phone number. Voca Winery Releases First Wine

Another vineyard has sprung up in Texas, this one in the small town of Voca, Texas, southeast of Brady, and northeast of Mason. Alphonse and Martha Dotson, the owners of Certenberg Vineyards and the Wines of Dotson-Cervantes, released their inaugural wine, Gotas de Oro or "Drops of Gold," which won a silver medal in the dessert and late harvest classification at the Lone Star Wine Competition.
