Roots Remix - September 24
Roots music fans will enjoy an eclectic mix of musical styles to wrap up the Summer Season of the Roots Music series, with a “Roots Remix” performance at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg on Saturday, September 24.
The evening offers a variety of musical styles, paired with grilled ribeye, Jagerschnitzel, and cool refreshment.
Opening the concert at 6 p.m., 16-year-old Ruby Jane - fiddler, singer, songwriter, actress, and multi-instrumentalist bandleader - showcases her distinct Americana mix of country, jazz, bluegrass, and blues. Trained in classical violin starting at age 2, by age 10 Ruby had won a string of fiddle contests and appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel tapped her to play the lead role of a young fiddler in A Ride With Bob, and she has appeared with major music stars including Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Johnny Gimble, and Marty Stuart.
At 7 p.m., the 7-piece ensemble White Ghost Shivers mashes Cab Calloway, circus sideshow, KISS, caberet, and Hee Haw for a joyous mix of humor, farce, fun, and outstanding musicianship. This award-winning, world-touring act blends blues, hillbilly, swing, country, and jazz for an outrageous and entertaining live show, featuring banjo, ukulele, mandolin, kazoo, guitar, sax, clarinet, baritone, and musical saw.
From 8:40 to 10 p.m., J.P. Soars brings his blues all the way from South Florida and from a mix of influences that include heavy metal, the rock of Jimi Hendrix, the blues of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Soars even was touched by the Cigar Box Guitar sounds of John Lowe. The multi-talented guitarist/vocalist just released his own CD entitled “Back Of My Mind.”
Beginning at 5 p.m. until the food is gone, the Longhorn Street Cafe will serve up choice of grilled Ribeye or Jagerschnitzel, with green beans, mashed potato, dinner roll and peach cobbler for $10. Wine, beer, sodas, tea, and water will be offered for sale in the wagon shed.
The Pioneer Museum is located at 325 West Main Street in Fredericksburg, with the entrance on Milam Street. Free parking. Bring lawn chairs. All concerts take place on Saturdays, 6 - 10 p.m.
Admission is $12. Students high school age and younger are free. Guests receive a $2 discount by visiting the web site and printing out the coupon or buying tickets online at www.pioneermuseum.net.
While this is the last regular concert of the summer season, organizers have added a special “Indoor Encore” concert inside the historic sanctuary on October 22. That show will feature Jessica Hyde, the Brennen Leigh Trio, and the Barnett Chapel United Methodist Church Choir & Spirit Dancers. Information and tickets available online at www.pioneermuseum.net.
