Whistle-Pik Gallery Fall Show Wine Reception 11/4

Mark you calendars now for this not to be missed event! Four of Whistle-Pik Gallery's most popular artists will be presenting new paintings for the 2011 Fall Show. OPENING WINE RECEPTION will be Friday, November 4 from 5 to 8 pm, during November First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg. All artists will be on hand that day at the gallery: Wanda Choate, Brian Grimm, Jerry Ricketson, & Sara Winters.

Vitner Dinner at Cabernet Grill - 11/3

Golden Hub Halloween Open House

Children and adults of all ages are invited to stop by the Golden Hub Community Center, 1009 North Lincoln, on Halloween between 4 and 6 pm. Treats will be given out to the youngsters. Everyone is welcome to come by to visit, enjoy punch and cookies, and see the Hub’s “horrifying” Halloween decorations. Hub staff and volunteers will be in costume.

Hallelujah Night - 10/31

Hallelujah Night is billed as "Something Real to Celebrate". Activities will be available throughout the park. Games for the very young will be available near the playground on Marktplatz from 6-8 pm, and games for older youth and teens will be located in and around the pavilions. In the center of the park, you will find a place to relax and enjoy free hot dogs, popcorn, and local live worship music. What is Hallelujah Night? It is an event to counteract the negative aspects of Halloween. The purpose of Hallelujah Night is to shine a light on a dark night. What can be a night of mischief, danger, and wickedness is transformed into a night of light with safe and wholesome fun with games and entertainment for kids of all ages. Sponsored by area churches and businesses, Hallelujah Night is free to all who come. Charles Beckendorf Gallery 40th Anniversary - 10/29

The Charles Beckendorf Gallery, 105 North Adams, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a show and sale. The Beckendorf Family will release three new giclees especially for this show along with a new series of 26 hand water colored prints depicting images of the Texas Hill Country. All available framed or unframed at this event.

The family has also decided to sell a small number of Charles’ original works of art for the first time since Mr. Beckendorf passed away in 1996. All of these are available for viewing now on the company’s website at www.beckendorf.com.

Texas Gun & Knife Show

The Texas Gun and Knife Association once again brings their Gun & Knife Show to Fredericksburg's Gillespie county fairgrounds. Hours are from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday. Vintner Dinner and Art in the Garden at Fredericksburg Herb Farm

The Texas Hill Country is becoming a hot spot for art and wine; the Fredericksburg Herb Farm is celebrating both during their next Vintner Dinner and Art in the Garden event.

On Thursday October 27, 2011 the Fredericksburg Herb Farm will host “Art in the Garden” an event showcasing a variety of local artists with an assortment of talents including plein air painting, glasswork, pottery, jewelry, and much more. The event takes place between 5pm and 7pm and will be followed by a five course Vintner Dinner prepared by Herb Farm Chef Asa Thornton and featuring select wines from Becker Vineyards; the dinner bell will ring at 7pm.

You can expect to find artists of all types at the event including Emily Ferrier Leland, a pleine aire painter who has also worked in fashion, textile and metal design; Donna Lafferty, an impressionist who specializes in original acrylic or gouache paintings; Susan Gleye, an artist whose pottery and glasswork pieces are often featured at the Herb Farm’s gift shop; Larry and Vici Wray owners of Yummy Day Designs who will be displaying an array of garden art specialties; Jeep Collins, an accomplished jewelry designer with a retail shop located in Fredericksburg; Betty Blackmond, a former art teacher and city planner whose oil paintings are displayed at art galleries in Llano and Marble falls; Art Among Friends, a group of Austin watercolorists; Kathleen McBride, a fused and hot glass artist who is also currently featured at the Herb Farm; and Lance Von Prum, the Herb Farm’s resident artist who specializes in watercolors, blacksmithing, metal work and more.

The evening’s featured wine is a local favorite. Becker Vineyards is located in the Texas Hill Country on highway 290 between Fredericksburg and Stonewall. Representatives from Becker will be present during dinner to introduce the selection of wines that will be served. Wine pairings include Becker Chardonnay, Barbera, Rousanne, Reserve Merlot and Viognier.

The “Art in the Garden” event is free and open to the public; light hors d’oeuvres will be served and bar service from the Herb Farm’s new Bistro Bar will be available during the show. The five course Vintner Dinner following the art show is $89 per person and includes a pairing of Becker Wine with each course. Dinner reservations are required. Gillespie County Historical Society Golf Tournament - 10/25

A vintage-themed, charity golf tournament is set for Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the prestigious Boot Ranch Golf Club and will benefit the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg. The format will be a four-person, best ball scramble with registration starting at 10:30 am and shotgun start at 11:30.

The round of golf at this exclusive, award-winning golf destination will integrate archery, cowboy poker, skeet shooting, driving with a hickory-shafted driver, putting with an old fashioned putter and complimentary on course food and beverage. Following the tourney, players and their spouses or guests will enjoy a social hour and awards ceremony, a steak and quail banquet, live and silent auctions, and music by Mike Blakely and his band. Green fees are $750 per player and include golf cart, team caddy, social hour, dinner for golfers and their spouses/guests, and a memorable keepsake. Proceeds of the tournament will support the mission of the nonprofit Gillespie County Historical Society’s Pioneer Museum- to preserve the history of Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country. E-Waste Collection - October 16

Fredericksburg CARES will hold its semi-annual electronic recycling (E-Cycle) collection on October 15. The Goodwill truck will be parked in the parking lot on the east side of the County Jail behind the Gillespie County Courthouse. Unloading assistance will be available from vehicles to the Goodwill truck during the event.

Computer and computer components, personal copiers, and many other electronic appliances will be accepted. Televisions will also be accepted (including flat screen). There will be no disposal fees charged for televisions. For the very first time, we will be accepting plastics #3 – 7.

CROP Walk - 10/16

Crop walk participants collect pledges to raise money for various charitable causes. Columbus Day Authors Forum - Today

Join the Admiral Nimitz Foundation and the National Museum of the Pacific War, 311 East Austin, for an Authors Forum featuring James Hornfischer and Stephen Moore. They will talk about their most recent books, take questions from the audience and be available to sign books at the end of the program. Copies of Hornfischer's book, Neptune's Inferno: The U.S. Navy at Guadalcanal, as well as Moore's book, Battle Surface: Lawson P. "Red" Ramage and the War Patrols of the USS Parche, will be available for purchase at the event.

Fredericksburg Jaycees Tractor Pull & Chili Cook-off - 10/7-8

The Texas Truck and Tractor Pullers take center stage at 7pm on Friday and Saturday at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds on Highway 16 South. More fun on Saturday at 1:30pm with the Texas Mini Tractor Pullers and at 5pm with the Local Open Class.

Chili Cook-off begins Saturday morning with a 2pm turn-in time.

Enchanted Rock Bird Walk - 10/8

See the first wave of fall migrants, and some lingering breeding birds, verify resident birds and be on the lookout for surprises as well.

Meet at the Loop Trail trailhead at 7:30 am and be prepared to walk about 4 miles, finishing around 1pm. Bring binoculars, water and snacks.
