December 4 Deadline for Tannenbaum Ball Tickets

Elegant settings await guests at this season’s Holiday Home Tour and Tannenbaum Ball, which along with the Candlelight Tour make up the Gillespie County Historical Society’s Preservation Weekend on Dec 11 and 12. For a limited time, tickets are available online for all events at www.pioneermuseum.net.

Guests wanting to reserve a seat at the Gillespie County Historical Society’s Tannenbaum Ball have until Dec. 4 to purchase a ticket for the Dec. 11 fundraising event at Fredericksburg’s Pioneer Pavilion in Lady Bird Park.


Reservations for the Tannenbaum Ball are $100 per person, and can be purchased online at www.pioneermuseum.net or by any of the following methods;

This year’s theme is “Partridge in a Pear Tree.” Guests will enjoy a formal dinner service catered by Dawn Gentle featuring prime rib and elegant dessert assortment, live music by the Bill Smallwood Band, and silent and live auctions. Live auction items include a Crawfish Crawl for 30 people, Piper Cub flyover of Gillespie County, Houston Grand Opera package including hotel accommodations and dinner, Murder Mystery dinner, and a week-long Santa Fe retreat for 12.


Tickets are also still available for the Holiday Home Tour and the Candlelight Tour of Homes.


The Holiday Home Tour opens up nine exclusive Fredericksburg properties decorated for the season on Saturday, Dec 12 from noon until 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person.


The popular Candlelight Tour returns on Saturday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visitors can view three historic houses decked in period decor and lit with candlelight. The tour includes the buildings and grounds of the Pioneer Museum, where carolers will sing while volunteers serve hot cider and traditional German cookies. Candlelight Tour tickets are $15 per person.


The public can still buy tickets to win one of three unique $2500 prizes offered by the Gillespie County Historical Society: a new motor scooter from Scootique, VISA gift card, or a custom painted gun. The winner’s name will be drawn the night of the Tannenbaum Ball.


Preservation Weekend is the largest fundraiser for the Gillespie County Historical Society, whose mission is to preserve and tell the story of Fredericksburg’s unique cultural heritage.

"Ranchwomen of the Texas Hill Country" at Photography 414

"Don't Make Me Go to Town: Ranchwomen of the Texas Hill Country" will be shown at Photography 414 Saturdays and Sundays in November, noon to 6 p.m. The project includes platinum prints and oral histories of ranchwomen from this region. The photographer, Rhonda Lashley Lopez, began the work more than a decade ago as a graduate student in photojournalism at UT Austin, and the work will be published by UT Press. The signed and numbered prints are for sale, but everyone is welcome to view the exhibit and learn about these remarkable women. Photography 414 Gallery is at 414 East Main Street.

"Storytelling in Texas" - 11/28


A Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Event for the Family and Audiences of All Ages. “Storytelling in Texas” will host storytelling concerts at 2:00pm and 7:30pm at Steve W. Shepherd Theater, 1668 Highway 87 South. Three nationally recognized storytellers will evoke laughter, stimulate the imagination and recall fond memories. General admission seating - tickets are $8 for children under 13 at both concerts, and $15 for adults for the matinee and $20 for the adults for the evening concert.

Tickets are being sold in conjunction with Preservation Weekend, the Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The events include the Tannenbaum Ball on Friday evening, Dec 11, the Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, Dec 12 from noon to 6 p.m., and the Candlelight Tour on Saturday evening, Dec 12, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.


The winner’s name will be drawn the night of the Tannenbaum Ball, Friday, Dec. 11. The winner will choose one of three prizes, each a $2500 value:

  • VISA gift card - $2500


Prize tickets are $30 each or four for $100. Tannenbaum Ball Tickets On Sale Now!


Everyone can help celebrate the season with an elegant meal, live dance music, auction, and raffle while raising money for a good cause by attending the Tannenbaum Ball on Friday, Dec 11 in Fredericksburg, Texas.


The Ball is sponsored by the Gillespie County Historical Society and is one activity of Preservation Weekend. Other events include the Holiday Home Tour and Candlelight Tour on Saturday, Dec 12.


Guests at the Tannenbaum Ball will enter a world of "Partridge in a Pear Tree,” with colorful birds perched in delicate silver branches at the Pioneer Pavilion in Lady Bird Park. At 8 p.m. Dawn Gentle serves a formal dinner service of baby spinach salad with roasted walnut dressing and blue cheese crumbles, choice cut prime rib, garlic potato mashers drizzled with balsamic cream sauce, and grilled vegetables. Dessert will be a mini-cake assortment of chocolate-mocha-raspberry, strawberry-cream cheese, and lemon blueberry, plus chocolate almond truffle and apricot streusel bars.


The Bill Smallwood Band will perform for the Ball. This well-known group is a crowd favorite, playing tunes from standard country to rock classics to big band numbers designed to appeal to all musical tastes and dancing styles.


During the evening, guest can buy chances to win one of three unique prizes, choosing from a new motor scooter from Scootique, VISA gift card, or a custom painted rifle.


Tickets are $30 each or 4 for $100.


One highlight of the Ball is the live and silent auction. Art Past Dark 2009 - 11/13-14

ART PAST DARK 2009
Art Past Dark, the celebration of Arts and Antiques, is scheduled this year for November 13-15, and will feature exhibits and artist demonstrations at ten galleries in the historic shopping district and the annual show of Die Künstler von Fredericksburg, a large, long-standing organization of local artists. Christmas Home Tour Tickets On Sale

A guest enjoys the Christmas decor at one of the homes featured on last year’s Holiday Home Tour. This year's Preservation Weekend is set for on Dec 11 and 12, and showcases nine unique properties, the Tannenbaum Ball, and the new Candlelight Tour.

The public can now purchase tickets for the Gillespie County Historical Society's 2009 Preservation Weekend activities, set for Dec 11 and 12 in Fredericksburg, Texas.


The Society has three special activities planned for the fundraising weekend, including the return of the popular Candlelight Tour on Saturday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visitors can view three historic houses decked in period decor and lit with candlelight. The tour includes the buildings and grounds of the Pioneer Museum, where carolers will sing while volunteers serve wine and traditional German cookies.


The Holiday Home Tour is earlier on the same day, from 12 noon until 6 p.m. This year nine “never before seen” properties are on the tour, featuring historic homes, restored buildings, and unique architectural structures.

Fredericksburg Salutes our Wounded Warriors - 11/7

Fredericksburg Salutes Our Wounded Warriors. Our community will host several busloads of "Wounded Warriors" and their families from Brooks Army Medical Center (BAMC), Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio and Ft. Hood. The FSOWW provides transportation to Fredericksburg, lunch and tickets to the National War of the Pacific Museum and to the RockBox Theater. All of Fredericksburg is invited to come out between 10:00 and 10:30 Saturday morning to greet our soldiers and their families when the busses arrive at Marktplatz. Please join us to show our support and say "Thanks" to these men and women who have given so much to ensure our freedom.

Boot Scootin' For A Cause - 11/7

The second annual dinner/dance series organized to benefit Hill Country Memorial Hospice and the Hill Country Memorial Cancer Resource Center will take place on September 12 at Marktplatz from 5 pm to 12 am. The benefit is a gift from a local family who organize and work the event to honor the memory of their beloved grandmother and mother who died of lung cancer.
