“Viva Texicana” Hill Country Fiesta - 9/28

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage in the Texas Hill Country.  Family fun with Stephanie Urbina Jones, Mariachi Nuevo Estilo A.D.M., Freedom Beat and Ballet Folklorico Dancers.  A special “Fiesta Fun Zone” with free children’s activities will take place from 4 to 6  pm and will feature educational and cultural arts, crafts and games including pinatas, mariachi musical chairs, tortilla toss, fiesta rubber ducks, storytelling in English and Spanish and more.  The Grito! King or Queen will be crowned and there will also be a jalapeno eating contest.  On the grounds of the Pioneer Museum, 325 W. Main Street. 4 to 9 pm.  $12 adults; $6 children.

The Dinosaur Show - 9/28

One day only! One of the largest traveling prehistoric exhibits in North America is coming to Fredericksburg! ”Dinosaur George” of the History Channel’s “Jurassic Fight Club” will present an incredible display of dinosaur skulls including one of the largest T-Rex skulls ever found. Fort Martin Scott Live Re-enactment - Today

Live re-enactment on the day The Texas Ranger Heritage Center breaks ground on property adjacent to the Fort at 10 am today.

Dairy Daze at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park - 9/28

Find out just how important the family milk cow was on a 1915-era German Family farm.  Watch as the cow is milked at 9:30 am, observe the milk separating procedure and learn what products could be produced from the milk from the family cow.  Try your hand at “milking” our non-kicking, non-moving cow which we have jokingly named “Half and Half”!

Admiral Nimitz Foundation Annual Symposium - 9/20

The Admiral Nimitz Foundation’s symposium this year will take place on September 21 – 22 at the Fredericksburg Theater Company. This year’s symposium is The Military and The Media, Witnesses to War. This year's symposium is sponsored by, The Sons and Daughters of Robert P. "Bob" Scripps

This day and a half event will examine through  presentations and open discussions with attendees how the media has impacted the public’s opinion and attitude towards the military and war, from World War II to the present. Sessions lead by military officials and experts in these topics include: Print Journalism, Photo-Journalism, Films and the Role of Hollywood, Radio-Television, The Media: A serviceman’s view, and finished up with a round table discussion with all presenters.

Sängerfest German Chorale Concert - 9/21

Bringing more than 300 singers to Fredericksburg, this German chorale concert will feature eight different choirs from San Antonio, New Braunfels, Corpus Christi and Fredericksburg.  This year, the Hermann Sons Mixed Choir will host the event, the 122nd Sängerfest of the Texanischer Gebirgssaengerbund, a tradition begun in 1881.  For the festival, a commemorative “Festscrift” program will be printed.  Event to be held at the St. Mary’s Holy Family Center, 306 W. San Antonio Street.

1st Annual Fredericksburg PBR - 9/11

40 of the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riding) best riders and some of the crankiest bulls around make this a must see event.  Enjoy the professional bull riders along with the future one who take part in the “Best of the Best Mutton Bustin’ Challenge” for kids.  Dance after the show to live music by Zach Edwards. At the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, 530 Fair Drive.

Sustainability Home Tour - 9/14

Fredericksburg SHINES, a local organization dedicated to educating the public about sustainable living, will host a Fredericksburg fall tour of homes to spotlight local examples of sustainable living practices.  Nine homes are on the tour and will feature such practices as solar power generation, water heating, clothes drying, well pumps and solar tubes for interior light sources.  There will also be examples of drip irrigation, xeriscaping and rainwater collection systems. 

Tickets include a map and a description of what is available for viewing at each home.

Wildflower Fall Planting Days - 9/13-14
